The Office, like any other nightclub, began as a dream. Former co-owner Bill Wagenseller came up with an idea to open a new nightclub in Raleigh. After finding the location in the downtown warehouse district, he began sharing his idea with two friends, Todd Criscoe and Rick Jones. The three decided to join together to build a club that woul revolve around the music. At the time Raleigh did not have a club that evoked the vibe of a metropolitian area. The plan was in place to build an upscale lounge with a house format. After one too many Crowns at another local bar, a floor plan was sketched on a napkin and soon after the building began.

The Office, having once been a blacksmith shop and Logans Coal Warehouse from the late 1800s, began remodeling. After removing buried coal and sandblasting old paint off the walla, a new contemporary design could begin. The design would be a collaberation of ideas from clubs in Miami, New York, and L.A. The Office would have three rooms. The dance club which was only to play house, techno, and break beats would offer the best sound system and light show available. Looking over the dance club would be the VIP lounge with a private bar and separate rooms divided by curtains for privacy. Between the dance club and VIP section through the fiberoptic wall would be the martini lounge. The martini lounge would offer an intimate space with specialty martinis named after the major corporations in the Research Triangle such as the popular "Don't Tell Nortel." Unlike any nightclub in the tobacco state at the time, the dance club, martini lounge, and VIP would be non-smoking. The only place to smoke would be the spacious open-air patio. The large patio would have a separate DJ booth, Japanese fire pits, and a waterfall flowing from the wall.

After almost a year of construction, completion was now in sight and opening night was scheduled for New Years Eve 2001. The best bartenders, DJ's, and staff in the city were hired and word of mouth began to spread. With no advertisement being marketed, opening night was a sign of things to come. With the feel of Studio 54, beautiful people lined outside the doors with anticipation to walk through the red velvet ropes. Once inside, they would see three men's dream come true and a new nightlife for Raleigh.

After three years, the Office was sold to a new owner on January 1, 2004. With the dream still in place and updates being made, the Office continues to be the best nightclub in Raleigh with more history being made everyday.
